Need for Speed

ANYWAY

In my attempt to start incorporating speed into my workouts....I have a goal of running the mile in under 8 minutes this week. I have all week to do it...and the Garmin will be proof. I know 8 minutes does not sound fast...but I don't believe I've ever run a mile in under 8 minutes before. I'll keep ya posted on how it's going.

Still surviving finals.......although I'm getting a little loopy. I laughed for 20 mins with my friend today at Panera about a "Cat Poo Sandwich on Rye"....dont ask. We were in tears.

If you can bottle up all that fianls stress and unleash it on the track, that 8 is going down! Stick it to 'em girl.

Sometimes those are the best laughs when you're so tired and the dumbest things crack you up.

Good luck on the 8.

How is the Garmin treating you? You can run a mile under 8. Just concentrate on your breathing and you'll be fine.

Hi Christine

You are going to be an "elite" and I have a feeling that you already are one:-) Your enthusiasm and devotion to your training are what will allow you to be as good as you aspire to be. I only started 5 years ago myself, but like you I am a hard worker, self motivated, etc.

Personally, I think you could be really good. In fact, I know that one of these years I will see you at Boston... if that is one of your goals.

I was a 9:30/mile runner all last summer. Tried my hardest (including sprints around a track) and just couldn't pick it up. Then all of a sudden for no real reason - I just did a 7:56 pace for a 5K. YOU CAN DO IT.

My latest strategy has been doing 2 minutes on the treadmill at a 7 min pace, and every day adding another 15 seconds to that. (Except that I've skipped the last 5 days). We'll see though - maybe that will help.

Ha - you gave me a giggle and made me feel super slow today. 8 minute miles are fast to me, I have never ran one in under 10! :)

You can do it, I'm sure of it!!

Good Luck with reaching your speed goals. I've just managed to get one under 9 minutes. How's the new Garmin, do you love it??

My next half is on Sunday, April 27th. There's a Mother's Day 10K, which I might do as well. The only other race written in stone is IM Canada on August 24th. Would like to do 2 marathons and maybe some smaller tris, but we'll see.
