SCARY

So when I first started running long distance I figured one of the benefits would be that my body parts would get smaller....NOT BIGGER!!!!!!! LOOK at this! WTF? I'm seriously freaking out here. Will this go away if i stop running? Will it all turn to fat? Will it eventually start slimming out? Could it possibly get BIGGER???? Will biking do this to my butt? I already know what swimming does to my shoulders...IM SCARED! I was hoping all this would make me a lil skinny thing....not a freakin BEAST!!!!!! HELLLLLLLLLP! Even my dog looks scared..like mom..wtf is that thing hanging off your leg!??

Be afraid, be very afraid. I have what I refer to as man calves. I figure that the pros of running outweigh the cons.

LMAO you could not have gotten your dog to have that expression if you tried!!
I know what your saying, and I feel you on the butt bike, but since mine was flat I'll take it.

It's either calf muscles and butt muscles or cellulite. I prefer to look at women with the muscles vs. cellulite. Unfortunately life is cruel for you females. I know women that are skinny and run over 6 marathons a year and still have it on their thighs. Men can be fat beasts and still have skinny legs.

Most men think the calf muscles are hot so don't worry.

nonono that looks good! I for one don't believe running makes you skinny, it works for some, but it's never worked for me!

As for your question. I've only ever ran one marathon and it was really hard, so if I were you I would focus on the marathon and still try and swim and bike once a week, then jump into tri training AFTER the marathon. Just my humble opinion

It's totally better than extra skin is all I'm saying :P Hey at least you have calves. Mine look like 2 slabs of veal LMAO!

Be proud of the muscle -- it means you're strong and healthy! And yeah, I don't know many people who have magically become "skinny" through running.

I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing the issue here. I find muscular legs very sexy. I say, "Keep up the good work!!" :-) You don't want to be one of those rail thin women with no muscle tone. That's just gross.

Haha. I just think the differences between the guy vs. girl responses to this post are hilarious. Is this one of those Venus vs. Mars things?

Men: "I don't get it. I dig toned legs."

Women: "At least you don't have cellulite or cankles!"

Your dog looks scared of something. However those calves look great. You should be proud of them, you worked hard to get them. You do not want the alternative. I think they are attractive.

i didnt think my legs could get any more muscular, but alas, my thighs are definitely made of steel. frustrating bc that means they are bigger :( BOOO!!

Gotta agree with the others, I like nice calf muscles on women. :)

The calf muscles are great. A bunch of us actually posted calf photos to our blogs a long while back.

The biking should give you thighs to match the calves but I'm not sure about the butt.

Hi Christine

I am sorry to say it, but I think that leg is a thing of beauty.. got one kind of like it myself. Yes, parts of your legs (read muscles) will get bigger, but there will be absolutely no flabby parts. Just a couple of rock hard legs.

Best of luck with your training.

You look great! I'm wishing for the same effects on my biceps.

Like Jess says, you should be proud of all that muscle! All the men seem to agree that muscles are hot on women and let's face it, its way better than cellulite :)

...even my dog looks scared... ...will biking do this to my butt?!... Ohhh my, I'm cracking up over here!

I was once walking up some stairs ahead of a random guy and when we got to the top, he turned and said to me, "you're a runner, aren't you?" Uhhh, yeah, how did you know? "You've got nice big calves." Nice big calves, wtf? Is that a compliment?!

Anyway... embrace those calves. They're part of the tradeoff!

That calf looks AWESOME! Be proud of it! Besides, it's very intimidating to those running behind you! You look great - just keep at it and don't worry about it!
