Crazy & Crazier

I am sick.....foreal. I have caught the fever!!!!!!!!! Would it be totally stupid to run another half marathon this weekend after finishing my first ever last weekend? I'm not really sore...just a little soreness in my quads...thats it. My hip is not bothering me. My knees are not bothering me. (Stomach still havin issues..haha) I need expert running advice stat!!

And one other topic to be advised on. I am throwing around the idea of training for a full marathon in May. Problem is my schedule. Could I train for a full marathon by just running 5 miles (3-4 times) during the week and building my weekend run up 23 miles? Most training plans have you running 8-12 mile runs during the week and my schedule just does NOT allow to run more than an hour or so per day. Please give me your thoughts...and advice. I'm a baby in running land!!

Here are some final pics from race weekend!! Everyone have a greattt week!
P.S.Is that not the ugliest medal ever?? A huge seashell in the middle...starfish woulda been cooler :)

*I'm jealous in case you missed the sarcasm.

Hey a medal is a medal. It's the memories that go with the medal that count.

You know what a marathon is completely different than a half marathon. I'd say if you are training to do a marathon you should stick pretty close to the training schedule or the race will kill ya. However, this is just my opinion, so good luck on which ever route you choose.

Have a good day...hope you are feeling better soon : )

Glad to hear you're recovering just fine! Although, I'd suggest against another half so soon; at least give your body two weeks to heal up.

As for the marathon, I think it would be doable (see, I'm not always a naysayer!). The long run on the weekend is absolutely crucial, but you could probably eek by without the mid-week long run.

The only caution: control your 'DO IT NOW!' attitude with the marathon; its a completely different ballgame!

hi sweets! i dont think you should rush another half-mary at this point. give your body a little rest and recovery. go on some short runs, and stretch those sore muscles out. no need to do another half-mary so close to the one you just ran!

as for the full marathon, i think if you were absolutely 100% diligent on increasing your mileage on saturdays/sundays, then you should be okay. just make sure to get the mid-week runs in, no matter how short/long they are.

I think I agree..running another half marathon would be stupid this weekend. Don't want to get injured and hinder further races! Time to train smart runnin duff!! :)

You said it. Train smart.
Sounds like you're getting the scheme of things. Good advice from comments above. I agree.

You can keep your fitness and aerobic strength with cross training....on a bike.

I think you'll be fine training for the marathon the way you described. The training group I was in did long run on the weekends (longest one of 20 miles) and not more than five to seven miles on week nights. I didn't set any records, but I made it across the finish line which is all I wanted. Give it a shot!

We're pretty similar in where we are - I did my first half-marathon a week ago and it felt great. However, I'm being dumb and running another half-marathon this weekend (exactly two weeks after the first one). But my thinking is, people training for a marathon will run 13 miles one weekend and then another 13 (or more) the next, so shouldn't this be fine?

So I guess you can be crazy and I can be crazier :)

You should go for the marathon in May. Before my first marathon in November I wasn't able to get in long runs during the week (5 miles a day) but used the weekends for long runs. I think as long as your are committed to your training you will be fine.

Two half marathons a marathon does not make. If you do it go for a finish not a time, you cannot skip a long run and think about your nutrition/hydration strategy

Nice bling though, it's you first and will always be that way ;)

I say go for it this weekend. I'm not sure that you are being fierce enough in your pics. LOL!! Sorry, that was a weak Tyra Banks reference.

Runners world has a GREAT 3 day a week running plan. It's 3 running days & 2 cross-training days.
I used it for the St. George Marathon & PR'd

Hi Christine

Congrats on your great half! Awesome time and great that you are going to recover so quickly.. young legs;-)

I agree with Doug.. the whole marathon is a much more difficult thing. I know from experience that at the 13 mile mark I am nowhere near half way done with the full. At around mile 20 I feel like I am half way done because that last 10k is so tough. There is also much more potential for injury, cramps, etc.

I do love your enthusiasm and wish you the best of luck.
