Blowing Bubbles

Seems easy right? Breathe in...blow bubbles out. Something we learned to do with our rubber ducky friend at the age of TWO! Something we were then again taught in swimming lessons at age FIVE! Then why does it seem difficult at age TWENTY FOUR? Ive been a swimmer my whole life, but never quite gripped the concept of breathing out while your face is underwater so when you turn you only have to suck in. WHenever I do it...I feel panicked and starved for Oxygen. Almost like holding my breath keeps me satisfied knowing I have air. I dunno what the deal is...but blowing bubbles has become increasingly more difficult as my calendar years increase.

On the flip side...I swam THREE times this week. Crazy huh? And I figured out a way to avoid running while power walking................the answer? Not power walking at all. Then theres no temptation to run. I pretty much eliminated the sport that requires my two feet to carry me. I have stuck to the two wheels...or two arms in the water. Therefore there is no temptation to pick my feet up off the ground while walking. Problemo solvedo! Its worked for 5 days. However I want to run soon..I'm thinkin I might do the treadmill. Since its flat...maybe it wont aggrevate the IT band as much (I've dubbed IT to stand for Idiotic Torture Band)..haha. Unfortunately the pool is closed next week for repairs. Thats part of why I got so much swimming in this week. Also finals starts next week..as you remember we have two weeks of finals. WHOOO HOOOOOo = not much training..

Hope everyone has a great weekend:)

Unfortunately (or fortunately)I will be back at the swimming pool next week after a very long hiatus (yes I should be training at the pool, but haven't...bad me)---I will swim an extra night for you and get in 4 times---okay: )

Make sure you heal knee.

Did you try a foam roller yet? I had a bunch of problems with my ITB for a while, and I started rolling it out, and now the pain has miraculously gone anyway even though I haven't been rolling it in months!

This title made me smile. This is one of the things my daughter who is 2 is learning in her swim class. It is definitely a concept that takes practice. Nice job getting to the pool.

does your gym have those concept two rowers....??

if so, maybe they can be surrogate workout machines that won't kill your legs...will work the upper body and keep you from having any breathing (freak out issues) in the closed pool, anyway.

good luck in finals

Best of luck with finals. I don't do the exhale thing in the water. I try but then something gets whack.
Can you maybe do the elliptical while nor running? Way to go with getting 3 swim workouts this week!

I feel the same way when I swim. I was told to blow out and I always feel like I'm out of breath as soon as I do. Good luck on the finals!!

just came across your blog and have enjoyed browsing so I thought i'd say hi! sorry to hear about it band probs... i'd definately recommend PT. i'm going through some issues with my heel and was so excited when i got to run a mile sunday. yeah, it had been over a month, i was so excited about a mile it was somewhat humorous :) anyways, good luck with the tri!! i did my first two last summer and fell in love. Definately recommend getting in a brick workout beforehand, just so you realize why your legs feel like jello off the bike! Inspiring and insightful posts, I look forward to reading your posts!
