Marathon Heeby Jeebies

Wow...its less than a week away. Here is the forecast SO FAR. Its lookin pretty good. The ING Georgia will have about 15,000 participants....saweeeeet!! That means a small chance I'll come in dead last. Best part...I get to spend the weekend with one of my BFF's Danielle. We are known as the sexy twins....and when we get together we are CRAZY! Heres some Halloween pics of us dressed as sexy twins :)PICT0745PICT0732 So yes...we are planning on dressing as sexy twins for the race. Its our tradition! LOOK OUT HOTLANTA!!!!!!!! I just can't wait to spend a weekend with a good friend. I moved to Georgia from Ohio in May and haven't been back since. My parents have come to visit a handful of times (including right now) and my other BFF came once. Other than that...no familiar faces in almost a year. This weekend is going to be really good for me. Any encouraging thoughts before the marathon would be great...I will print them and keep them in my pocket for inspiration when the race gets tough. No matter what though...me and Danielle will run every step side by side. Betcha can't wait for this race report :)

Hope everyone has a great week!

The latest quote that's been inspiring me is from FDR. It's not related to running, but you could probably apply it to the marathon:

"To reach a port, we must sail.
Sail, not tie at anchor.
Sail, not drift."

Remember, don't drift - keep pushing!

I am so jealous that you got up the nerve to sign up and run this... you are way ahead of me :)

It looks like Mother Nature will be on your side on Sunday, which is always a super boost to race day. As for some advice...When I was volunteering in 2005 at an IM Coeur d'Alene which Trevor participated in I made a sign with the quote...

"When you are at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on."

— Eleanor Roosevelt

It's not going to be any easy day 26.2 miles is far, but it's do able and you will do it and have fun at the same time.

Jeez with those outfits, I just might come and run with you.

"In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, 'I have finished.' There is a lot of satisfaction in that. "

Good luck in your marathon. Inspiration?! You don't need no stinkin' inspiration. Just remember YOU'RE the SUPERSTAR, and you're OUR inspiration, so go knock'em dead, take no prisoners and tell us all about it afterwards.

I dedicated each of the 26 miles to people that inspired me and I let them know ahead of time what miles they had. I laminated the sheet and kept it with me when I ran.

When it was getting touch, I just looked at the sheet and thought about who I was running that mile for.. sure helped near the end!

Road warrior, I love that idea! I also thought of getting all your friends/family/people you admire to pick a song they want you to listen to. Then put them all on your iPod, and when you hear someone's song come on, you can think of them cheering you on!

You could also keep your cell phone with you and ask people to wait for your call. When I ran my second half-marathon, I was alone (no one waiting for me at the finish), and I was not doing well around mile 10, so I called my mom, who gave me a "you can do it! Keep going! I love you so much!" monologue while I huffed and puffed and didn't talk. It helped a lot :)

One of my BFs and I are doing the half together, and I think that is what really pulls you through - having someone there to motivate you!

But it sounds like you are totally ready anyway!! Good luck!! : )

You girls are so cute.

So you're going to RUN in outfits? Make sure you "practice" run in them for a longer run :)

Kick Ass Seabass!
Just Keep Moving.
I can do this. I can do this!

Whoa!!! CUTE!!!! You are going to do great in the marathon. Just pace yourself and drink plenty of fluids! Can't wait to see how well you do!

I know you are going to do great! Take your time and just try and enjoy yourself.. can that even be possible when you are going 26.2?? I think the most important thing is to go in there with an open mind and have reasonable expectations... then when you exceed them we can start on the road to getting you qualified for Boston.

Go get 'em!

The ING - awesome! That's a race I'd LOVE to do, especially since I lived in GA for a few years (and graduated from UGA, as did my hubby, though we never lived there at the same time). Have a GREAT time and enjoy the road to the finish!
